“Where did the time go?”
You know the expression. Except, I really, really mean it. My baby is 7. SEVEN. And while I’m definitely a glass-half-full, look-on-the-bright-side person, I realized yesterday that Carly is over the hill.
I know, a little heavy for the first blog post. But it’s all I can think about. Hopefully, I can leave the panicked, urgent feelings here on the page and get about our day.
While not directly the subject of this blog, you should know that my daughter has progeria. Yes, the 1-in-8-Million, scientifically intriguing, something-you-only-see-on-tv, opposite of Benjamin Button, rapid aging disease. Diagnosed at 10 months, I’m still in shock.
So, while time is our most precious and cherished asset, Carly’s is even sweeter. This blog is more about my journey to maximize her time on this planet and mine; finding balance in all of the things I’d like to accomplish (including a cure), and enjoying the here and now. That’s a juxtaposition, right? Keep fighting… and find peace in acceptance and contentedness. No wonder it’s so difficult to do both at the same time. But that’s what we do. Time to get to work. (I’ll smell the roses on the way.)
